The World Food Platform Central Africa Region

The World Food Platform Central Africa is a regional initiative developed to strengthen food systems in a region rich in natural resources yet constrained by structural and environmental challenges. Central Africa holds vast agricultural potential, fertile land, forests, and water resources, but continues to face food insecurity driven by climate variability, infrastructure limitations, conflict-related disruptions, and limited market access.

Food systems in the region are closely tied to smallholder agriculture, forest-based livelihoods, and informal trade. Weak transport networks, post-harvest losses, and limited processing capacity restrict the ability to convert agricultural output into stable food supply and income. At the same time, Central Africa offers strong opportunities in sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, fisheries, and regional value-chain development. The World Food Platform Central Africa provides a structured framework to support coordinated progress.

The Platform brings together governments, agribusinesses, cooperatives, development institutions, research bodies, and investors. It focuses on improving productivity, strengthening resilience, enhancing food safety, supporting rural livelihoods, and expanding storage, logistics, and market linkages.

By connecting regional priorities with global expertise and partnerships, the World Food Platform Central Africa supports resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems that contribute to food security, economic stability, and long-term development across the region.
