The World Food Platform South Asia Region
The World Food Platform South Asia is a regional initiative developed to address the scale, diversity, and urgency of food system challenges across South Asia. Home to a large share of the world's population, the region faces persistent pressures related to food security, nutrition, water scarcity, climate stress, and rural livelihoods, while remaining a critical contributor to global agricultural output. South Asia's food systems are deeply interconnected with smallholder farming, monsoon dependence, informal markets, and price sensitivity. Rapid population growth, urban expansion, and climate volatility further strain production, storage, and distribution. The World Food Platform South Asia provides a structured space to bring governments, development institutions, agribusinesses, cooperatives, researchers, and investors together to address these challenges through coordinated action.
The Platform focuses on improving productivity, strengthening food resilience, enhancing nutrition outcomes, and reducing post-harvest losses. It supports collaboration across agriculture, irrigation, agri-finance, food processing, logistics, and policy frameworks, while encouraging innovation suited to local conditions.
By connecting regional expertise with global knowledge and investment, the World Food Platform South Asia aims to support inclusive growth, protect vulnerable communities, and advance sustainable, climate-resilient food systems that can meet both regional needs and global food security objectives.
