The World Food Platform Southeast Asia Region

The World Food Platform Southeast Asia is a regional platform designed to support one of the world's most dynamic and food-rich regions. Southeast Asia is a major global producer of rice, seafood, palm oil, fruits, and spices, while also serving as a fast-growing consumer market shaped by urbanization, tourism, and rising incomes. These strengths coexist with structural challenges related to climate exposure, smallholder farming, infrastructure gaps, and supply-chain fragmentation.

The region is highly vulnerable to floods, droughts, and temperature volatility, making resilience and adaptation central priorities. At the same time, Southeast Asia is emerging as a hub for agri-startups, digital marketplaces, aquaculture innovation, and inclusive food-system models. The World Food Platform Southeast Asia provides a practical framework to connect producers, policymakers, enterprises, cooperatives, researchers, and investors across the region.

The Platform emphasizes food security, sustainable agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, rural development, trade facilitation, and food safety. It enables regional cooperation, capacity building, technology transfer, and market access, with a strong focus on empowering small and medium producers and strengthening regional value chains.

By aligning local realities with regional and global expertise, the World Food Platform Southeast Asia supports resilient, inclusive, and sustainable food systems that contribute to economic growth, social stability, and long-term food security across the region.
